Make time for yourself

A classroom timer everyone can read

Project the countdown onto the board or a large screen so the class can see exactly how long is left. The page starts at ten minutes, and you can switch to any length in a few clicks.

Setting up for a lesson

Open this page on the computer connected to your projector or display. Choose a duration, then press the fullscreen button so the numbers fill the screen. Turn on Keep screen on so the display does not dim mid-activity, where your browser supports it. Press Start when the class is ready. Check that the projector shows the whole screen before the lesson begins.

Lengths for different activities

One or two minutes for a pair discussion or a tidy-up. Five minutes for a starter or a quick quiz. Ten to fifteen minutes for group work or silent reading. Twenty-five to forty-five minutes for a test section or an extended task. The same countdown works for a timed reading break or a quiet end-of-day reflection. Custom accepts any whole number of minutes from 1 to 180, and you can set focus and break lengths so a test section and the rest after it each have their own countdown.

Keep the room calm

Choose Still scene to stop background movement if it distracts anyone, and switch between dark and light themes to suit the lighting in your room. The optional completion chime is gentle rather than alarming. Sound is off until you choose it; soft rain or noise during independent work is there if your class likes it.

A few useful details

Does the classroom timer start the next activity automatically?

No. When the countdown ends it waits. Breaks and further phases only start when you press Start, so you stay in charge of the lesson.

Will the timer keep counting if I switch windows?

Yes, it keeps correct time in the background. Students will only see it while it is on the shared screen, so keep the browser window on the projector or use a second display.

Can I pause for an interruption?

Yes. Pause holds the remaining time and Resume carries on from where you stopped.

Do I need to log in at school?

No. There is no account or sign-up. Preferences are saved in that browser only.

Find your rhythm.

A little structure, on your terms.
Choose a rhythm or make it your own.

Use whole minutes from 1 to 180. Take a long break after every four completed focuses. Each new phase waits for you to start it.

Changes apply to your next timer. A running or paused timer keeps its current duration.

How your timer works

Your timer and preferences stay in this browser. The countdown catches up after sleep; a backwards clock change pauses it. Completion sounds may be delayed or silenced while your device sleeps. Enable the chime in Sounds.

Timer & preferences

The chime has its own soft volume. Your device may silence it while asleep. Rain starts when you enter Night Rain or Darling Harbour. Layer sounds here or pause them individually. Audio gently softens at the end of a focus phase.
