40 minutes. Room to get into it.
Make room for a longer chapter, a problem to work through, or a little uninterrupted writing.
Your saved session is still here.
Focus 1 of 4
Make time for yourself
Put the next step in front of you before you start: open the document, choose a chapter, or lay out the problem. Spend the session on that one piece of work.
For writing, aim for a rough section rather than a polished final draft. For study, choose a topic and work through it before moving on. If another task comes to mind, jot it down to return to after the countdown. Close the tabs you will not need and silence notifications before pressing Start focusing; forty minutes is long enough that small interruptions add up.
Forty minutes is longer than a classic Pomodoro but short of an hour. It suits work that takes a little while to warm up: a dense chapter, a coding problem, a section of a report. You get past the settling-in stage and still have a break in sight. Add a calm room or a little rain if you want the session to feel separate from the rest of your day.
The default short break on this page is five minutes. Adjust it in settings if you want more time away from the screen. When the focus finishes, the break stays ready until you start it. After forty minutes, try a short walk or a glass of water before the next round.
The page opens a 40-minute focus countdown. You can then start a break and another focus phase yourself. It does not automatically run a fixed number of sessions.
Yes. Audio is optional. Open Sounds to choose rain, fireplace, ocean, music or noise, stop playback, or turn on a gentle completion chime. Your device may delay or silence sounds while asleep.
Yes. Open Custom and set the short and long breaks to any whole minutes from 1 to 180. The change applies to your next timer, not one that is running.
Yes. The countdown runs from a fixed end time, so a background tab or a sleeping laptop does not make it drift.
