Your little corner

New York rain, a little after midnight

Manhattan Midnight is a walnut desk in a pool of brass lamplight. Coffee steams beside an open notebook, plant leaves move gently, and through the rainy window the Empire State Building stands over the city.

A quiet desk above New York

The room feels late and still, the city awake outside while you work inside. The plant leaves stir a little, the coffee steams, and the lamplight stays steady. New York rain starts playing when you enter, once you have clicked on the page. It is a good room for the last hour of a long day, when you want somewhere calm to finish up.

Company for long sessions

The warm lamplight suits writing, reading and long evening study. Try the Deep work preset, 50 minutes of focus and ten off, and add a little fireplace under the rain for warmth. If you would rather hear music, choose one of five soft instrumental tracks and lower the rain beneath it. Turn on the gentle completion chime if you want a soft cue at the end of each phase.

Keep the view clear

Choose Hide controls or Minimal to keep the skyline in view, and go fullscreen for the full window. Still scene stops the motion if you prefer a quieter screen. Switch between the dark and light themes to suit your room, and save the room as a session to come back to it in one click.

A few useful details

Is the view a real New York skyline?

It is an animated scene with the Empire State Building in view, not a live camera. The rain on the window is part of the animation.

Can I keep the screen awake during a long session?

Turn on Keep screen on, where your browser supports screen wake lock, so the display stays on while the timer runs.

What happens when a focus phase ends?

The timer waits. Start your break when you are ready; nothing begins automatically. After four completed focus phases, a long break is offered.

Is Manhattan Midnight free?

Yes. No account or sign-up. Preferences and saved sessions stay in this browser, so they will not follow you to another device.

Find your rhythm.

A little structure, on your terms.
Choose a rhythm or make it your own.

Use whole minutes from 1 to 180. Take a long break after every four completed focuses. Each new phase waits for you to start it.

Changes apply to your next timer. A running or paused timer keeps its current duration.

How your timer works

Your timer and preferences stay in this browser. The countdown catches up after sleep; a backwards clock change pauses it. Completion sounds may be delayed or silenced while your device sleeps. Enable the chime in Sounds.

The chime has its own soft volume. Your device may silence it while asleep. Rain starts when you enter Night Rain or Darling Harbour. Layer sounds here or pause them individually. Audio gently softens at the end of a focus phase.
