Make time for yourself
Choose something with a clear next step: read a few pages, sort a handful of notes, or write the opening paragraph. You only need to decide what to do for the next ten minutes. Ten minutes is short enough to start without a plan and long enough to make visible progress.
Put the materials you need in front of you and press Start focusing. Ten minutes suits a short reading, a set of flashcards, a quick tidy of your inbox or the opening paragraph of an essay. When time is up, decide whether to stop, take a break, or begin another session. Nothing starts automatically. If you finish early, use the spare minutes to note your next step.
Some people settle more quickly with a little sound. Open Sounds and choose an instrumental track, rain at the window, a fireplace, ocean waves, or white, pink or brown noise. Mix layers with separate volume sliders, or keep the countdown silent. Your browser needs a click before any audio plays.
This page starts with a ten-minute focus, a five-minute short break and a fifteen-minute long break. Choose Custom to change those durations to any whole minutes from 1 to 180. Running an activity for a class? The classroom timer also starts at ten minutes, with a large fullscreen view.
