Your little corner

An ambient light background with space to exhale

Velvet Drift is broad, soft veils of coloured light moving slowly across a dark background. It is the slowest and simplest of the rooms, made for when you want a little colour and almost nothing else. It needs nothing from you except a moment to settle.

Slow light in six colours

Choose from six colours. The light folds and drifts at an unhurried pace, so the screen feels alive without pulling your eyes away from the work. In a dim room it gives off a soft glow. Try a few colours over a week and keep the one you return to.

When to use Velvet Drift

Try it for reflective work: journalling, planning, reading something slowly, or a short pause between meetings. It also suits a long focus session when a detailed scene would start to feel busy, or a break with the timer paused, simply to look at something slow for a while. Use Still scene if you want the colour to stay put, and Keep screen on to stop the display dimming, where supported.

Add sound, or keep it silent

Velvet Drift starts quiet. Ocean waves suit its slow movement; brown noise adds a low, steady floor. Each layer has its own volume slider, and you can save the room, durations and mix as a session. Your browser needs one click on the page before any sound plays.

A few useful details

Is Velvet Drift the same as Midnight Ripples?

No. Both are abstract and start quiet, but Velvet Drift uses broad, soft veils of light, while Midnight Ripples has smaller ripples that flow across the screen. Choose the one whose pace suits you.

Can I hide everything except the light?

Choose Hide controls to clear the screen, and fullscreen to fill it. Minimal keeps the time visible with very little else, and Still scene stops the motion entirely.

Does Velvet Drift have a timer?

Yes. Every room has the full timer over the scene, with presets, Custom durations, Pause and Resume. Each phase waits for you to press Start.

Is it free?

Yes. No account and no sign-up. Your preferences are saved in this browser.

Find your rhythm.

A little structure, on your terms.
Choose a rhythm or make it your own.

Use whole minutes from 1 to 180. Take a long break after every four completed focuses. Each new phase waits for you to start it.

Changes apply to your next timer. A running or paused timer keeps its current duration.

How your timer works

Your timer and preferences stay in this browser. The countdown catches up after sleep; a backwards clock change pauses it. Completion sounds may be delayed or silenced while your device sleeps. Enable the chime in Sounds.

The chime has its own soft volume. Your device may silence it while asleep. Rain starts when you enter Night Rain or Darling Harbour. Layer sounds here or pause them individually. Audio gently softens at the end of a focus phase.
